Kitty is afraid
Mila-cat’s kittens are growing fast! Little Kitty is curious and brave — sometimes a bit too brave. When she wanders off and meets a noisy puppy, she learns that adventures can be scary too.
Mila-cat has a litter of four little kittens. They are now ten days old, and their eyes are starting to open. The woolly little balls are beginning to take note of the world around them. Sometimes they crawl a short distance away from Mommy-cat and then start to squeak and mew softly as they look for her.
After a week or two Mila starts to get out of the basket more often to stretch her legs and she then leaves the little kittens on their own for a short while. Sometimes they enjoy playing with one another and when they are tired, they curl into a small bundle and quickly go to sleep.
Kitty is a snow-white she-cat and is very curious about what is going on around her. She crawls a bit further away than her little brothers and sister and then becomes afraid. This morning the same incident happened: she saw the big Boer Mastiff playing with her little ones and wanted so much to play with the lively puppies. She crawled nearer and suddenly has a huge fright. One of the puppies charges at her and starts to bark incessantly.
She lies down flat on her tummy and starts to mew softly. She doesn’t know what to do, because Mummy-cat is not nearby. The puppy gets closer to her and wants to sniff her. She starts to scratch him with her sharp little nails and slaps at him. Now she also starts to shout in an earsplitting way!
The owner of the house suddenly comes running to them and grabs the little kitten from the sharp teeth of the puppy. She cuddles and strokes Kitty and softly soothes her. The kitten becomes calmer and starts to purr for sheer joy. She puts her back into the cat-basket. Mila licks her baby until she looks sleek and tries to console her.
She also warns Kitty to never ever wander off so far away from her. She tells her that dogs and cats can sometimes be best friends, but in general they don’t like one another much.
Kitty is so tired and exhausted. She lies down next to her little brothers and sister and quickly goes to sleep. This was a wonderful adventure, but it could have happened so much differently. What do you think could’ve happened if the owner of the house didn’t find Kitty in time?
