Rabbit Longear can’t see clearly…

Ages 3-5

Rabbit Longear loves playing and learning clever things at school. But he refuses to eat carrots! He won’t touch a stew. After a morning in the dark, Longear learns why eating veggies matters.

Rabbit Longear enjoys playing with his friends in the green grass. They hop around and dig holes. They hear every tiny sound with their big ears. When there is a jackal nearby, they quickly duck into their holes!

Their holes are their homes where they live with their mummies and daddies. In the mornings some of their brothers and sisters go to the playgroup with Aunty Owl. They enjoy playing and learn about colours and shapes. Aunty Owl also teaches them to do sums. They are very clever.

Rabbit Longear is already in the primary school. There they learn wonderful things. Some days the teacher takes them on outings and then they become very clever. They are taught that one must eat one’s food. Some of the food has vitamins and this helps one to see better and to run fast.

Rabbit Longear listens to everything Mr Monkey tells them. He also explains that carrots help one to see better. Rabbit doesn’t like carrots. It doesn’t taste nice and he shudders when he puts it into his mouth.

That evening Mommy Rabbit again made a lovely carrot stew. Rabbit Longear doesn’t touch the food. Mommy decides to contact Doctor Elephant for a plan. Doctor Elephant gives her a clever plan.

Mommy Rabbit waits till Rabbit Longear is fast asleep. Doctor Elephant gave her a blindfold. She puts it neatly across his eyes.

When Rabbit Longear wakes up the next morning, he has a bad fright! He can’t see a thing! It is pitch dark and he becomes terribly afraid! He will eat carrots every day… He calls his mother and promises the moon and the stars! He will eat a whole bed of carrots!

Mommy listens carefully to everything he says. She pulls the blindfold from his eyes and laughs out loud. “Do you see what happens when one doesn’t eat one’s food. A blind rabbit can’t see anything, this is exactly what you experienced just now. It seems to be pitch dark and you can’t see the pretty things in life anymore.

Rabbit Longear now also bursts out laughing. His mother played a trick on him. He is so happy that he isn’t blind. That was a terrible feeling, and he really wants to see clearly.

That afternoon when he got home, Mommy made tasty, sweet carrots and he eats a wholeplate full without any difficulty! It is much better to eat your food than to become ill.
