Listen to the story
This morning Ricus, the raindrop, is happy and excited. His mom, the raincloud, called him and his other siblings this morning. They are selected to fall to Earth today! It’s very important, because they bring new life to all the people, animals and plants.
There are voices which keep on babbling, laughing and moving around excitedly. They rummage around because Mom said the group must be together when they fall down to Earth. It takes many raindrops to form a cloud.
William, the wild west wind, starts to chase the raindrops together. Ricus starts to feel a little bit anxious. What is going to happen if he can’t get to the middle of the group in time? He has been looking forward to go to Earth for a long time. Mom always tells them how important they are and that they will mean a lot to others. He wants to go first to Earth. He makes sure that his round tummy is full of water. He has a shining potbelly!
Uncle Theo Thunderstorm first sends Louis Lightning to ensure that the sky is clean before William gathers the stormclouds. Ricus is pressed against the other raindrops, and they feel the excitement in their round bodies. The thundercloud in which thousands of them are, starts to become much heavier.
When Uncle Theo suddenly rumbles louder after Louis has sliced through the air, the little drops start to fall down to the earth one after the other. Ricus and his brothers fall into a round puddle in Touws Street. It’s so thrilling, they laugh and babble at the same time. A car drives past and drives through the puddle. This splashes the water onto the grass next to the street.
Ricus feels the grass drinking the water from his potbelly and then he suddenly realizes what Mom meant: Once you give of yourself, you really do give! The grass can grow now, and the cows can feed on it again. Ricus closes his eyes. Now he can rest in peace!
