School is nice!
It is Make-and-Bake Day at school, and the classroom is filled with excitement. The children will make their own gingerbread men. It’s a joyous day watching their gingerbread men baking in the oven.
Today is Make and Bake Day at school. The whole week teacher Anne has been promising that they are going to bake little Gingerbread men just like in the story of Shrek! The whole class is super-excited.
Teacher brought all sorts of sweets for the buttons and eyes. She also explained to them that it is hard work preparing the dough to make the little men.
They see all the bowls arranged in the kitchen for this hard work. The kids ask Teacher if they may smell the ingredients and it’s especially the ginger which smells extraordinarily, lovely.
Each kid gets a small bowl in which flour, butter, ginger, salt and sugar are measured. On one side bicarbonate of soda and milk are mixed together. The kids enjoy mixing the dough exactly as teacher is explaining it. Aunty Susan, the principal, bought the cutest small rolling pins and this is the first time they may use them.
Teacher switches the oven on to just the correct temperature for the little men to bake to a pretty brown. Before they are put on the baking tray, the kids must first form the little men by using a cake mold. After they’ve shaped the little men, each one decorates theirs with sweets for buttons and currants for eyes. As soon as the little men are done, the face can be decorated with icing sugar.
The class assistant takes photos of each little man, because the kids quickly eat the Make and Bake items and Teacher is so proud of them that she wants to show the parents each one. They sit as still as mice in front of the oven to watch how the little men bake to brown.
The whole kitchen smells deliciously like ginger, and the tummies of the kids turn and twist as they crave to eat these little Gingerbread men
