The bear who got lost
Bruto is a young, curious brown bear who loves exploring the Alaskan forest. One snowy day he wanders too far from home and gets lost in a storm. He is cold and frightened!
Listen to the story
Deep, deep in a big dark forest in Alaska lives Bruto, the brown bear. He is the youngest cub of his motherâs litter of three little bears. They are now nearly nine months old and are starting to become more curious about what is going on around them.
Bruto is the most curious of them all. He enjoys running after the butterflies and catches many different things which fly or crawl. He also gathers honey from hives and bees sometimes sting him.
One morning he enjoyed playing so much that he strayed far away from his home. He forgot how cold it can become in Alaska. A snowstorm starts to rage and snowflakes fall around him.
He still walks around. This is the time when the bears hibernate in their lairs. Because it becomes so cold the bears crawl deep into their homes and sleep during winter.
A bear isnât created to walk around in the cold. They eat a lot during summer and autumn months and store a thick layer of fat to carry them through the winter months. Bruto totally forgot about this. He wandered far away and is now in dire straits.
The mother bear teaches her cubs everything they must know about nature, but they know nothing about survival during the winter months. Bruto starts to cry softly. He is hungry, wet and cold.
Why didnât he listen to his mother when she warned him not to wander off too far. He takes shelter against the nearest tree, but to no avail. He hears strange sounds. His little heart is beating in his chest with fear. His soft sobs now become loud grunts!
He shivers with terror! He hears something coming towards him and sees only the shadow of a huge being! He is now so afraid that he starts digging a hole to hide in!
âBruto, is this you?â This is the voice of Daddy Bear! Thanks heaven! They were concerned about him and started looking for him. He is so relieved that his tears change to soft, satisfied growls.
Daddy walks in front and he follows. It is after all wonderful to have a daddy and a mommy who love you so much and who will always make sure that you are fine, even when you are disobedient.
