Tumi catches a fish

Tumi catches a fish

Ages 3-5

The Lion class is bubbling with excitement! Miss Jo-Anne has promised a fishing trip to Farmer Jan’s farm. With tiny fishing rods, picnic baskets, and a minibus ready to go, the adventure begins.

Huge excitement prevails in the Lion class! Miss Jo-Anne promised the class to go fishing on farmer Jan’s farm. Teacher received a sponsorship which gave eighteen small fishing rods to her class.

Uncle Louis made his minibus available for the class to use, so that they will drive safely to the farm. Every kid’s mother had to provide a picnic basket for the day. Teacher clearly wrote in her letter that they may only have nutritious food and drinkables in their baskets.

Tumi and John are very excited. They don’t listen carefully when teacher tells them not to run to the bus. Unfortunately, she has to scold them and lets them walk at the back of the row. They are pretty much down in the dumps, but if you don’t want to listen, you must suffer the consequences

Aunty Susan puts blankets next to the dam for the kids to sit on when they first enjoy their picnic. They are not in the least interested in food now. They want to CATCH FISH!

The adults hand the fishing rods out and put the bait onto the fishhooks. The uncles help them to throw the lines into the water. They are also told that one will only catch a fish when completely quiet! A dead stillness descends onto the dam.

Tumi suddenly shouts!

“I have a fish! I have a fish!”

Farmer Jan quickly runs nearer.

“You have to stay calm now. I’ll help you to reel the fish in. Don’t tug or pull onto the fishing rod!”

Tumi co-operates nicely and eventually the carp lies on the dam wall. The kids cluck around Tumi and everyone wants to stand next to him so that teacher can take a photo of them and the fish.

That afternoon while driving back home silence reigns in the bus. The kids’ heads nod one after the other and they go to sleep. What a thrilling day this was!
